Inkature is a writing platform designed to help authors track their work, build an audience, and connect with other writers. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We aim to be straightforward — if something is unclear, email us at privacy@inkature.com.
When you sign up, we collect your email address and a username you choose. You may optionally add a display name, bio, profile picture, and banner image. Your email is never shown publicly.
We store the writing projects, series, and word-count updates you create, as well as any posts, polls, or writing sessions you share on the social feed. Word-count logs include a timestamp, the amount logged, and any note you attach.
When you interact with other users we store those interactions: follows, bookmarks, likes, and direct messages. Direct messages are private between participants and are not read or used for any other purpose.
We store your preferences for profile theme, display font, avatar style, custom status, social links, privacy settings (profile visibility, messaging privacy), and display toggles (streak, word count, writing heatmap).
If you subscribe as a supporter, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number or full payment details. We do store a Stripe customer ID and your subscription status so we can manage your access to supporter features.
Like any web service, our infrastructure logs IP addresses and standard HTTP request metadata (browser type, pages visited, timestamps) as part of normal server operation. These logs are used solely for security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing technical issues.
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie is set by our authentication provider (Supabase) and is strictly necessary for the service to function. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, ever. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to run Inkature:
We may disclose information if required by law, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of Inkature, our users, or the public.
Content you mark as public — your profile, public projects, and posts — is visible to anyone on the internet. Content you mark as private is visible only to you.
You control what is publicly visible. Individual projects can be set to private. Your entire profile can be restricted to people you follow or made fully private. Direct messages can be limited to followers or disabled entirely. These settings live in Settings → Privacy.
You can edit or delete your projects, posts, and profile information at any time from within the app.
You can delete your account from Settings → Account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, projects, posts, and associated data. Some residual data (for example, aggregate usage logs) may be retained for a short period as required by our infrastructure providers.
You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by emailing privacy@inkature.com. We will respond within 30 days.
You can cancel your supporter subscription at any time from Settings → Subscription. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. Stripe manages the billing relationship; you can also manage payment methods directly in the Stripe customer portal.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our live database promptly. Backups and infrastructure logs maintained by our service providers may retain copies for a short additional period in accordance with their own retention policies. Payment records required for tax and accounting purposes may be retained for up to seven years as required by applicable law.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session handling, and optional multi-factor authentication for your account. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. No system is perfectly secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and contact us.
Inkature is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us at privacy@inkature.com.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the platform or by email. Continued use of Inkature after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
